Materials needed:
1/2 - 1 yard. Of a 2 - way stretch (more vintage - like) (or 4 way) for the brief body and gusset face fabric.
And a very small amount of 100% cotton lining for the gusset interior. I use an old t shirt for mine.
I found a synthetic lightweight micro knit material as it closely mimicked the material of the vintage nylon panties I sourced for research. I've also made these in a few other similar weight materials all dead stock & reclaimed. I encourage you to try to repurpose as well!
It was all priced really cheap at recycled materials centers, thrift stores, even cutting up old robes or slips with stretch work great.
A thin cotton jersey would also be nice. This is the most breathable option, I suggest finding the lightest weight possible.
Consider a good stretch and bounce back for a snug fit as thats the most important thing.
Elastic: About 1.5 yards. Consider the comfort of your elastic in terms of rigidity/stiffness, I'd choose a soft narrow elastic 1/8inch wide. Picot or fold over elastic could be used however I don't cover it in this tutorial.
Sizing: I used "universal US standards" for my sizing and tested on a few friends.
XS - 26" waist
S - 27" waist
M - 28" waist
L - 32" waist
XL - 34" waist
XLL - 37" waist
These patterns are really easy to take out or let in if needed.
