Cotton Satin Combination for Daytime
I love the way antique step-ins look belted. I wanted to create my own in a sturdier, bright and gorgeous fabric. During assembly I realized it would be supremely convenient if the belt was simply built in.
If any garment was me to a T, it would be this one. The red “belt” is an antique ribbon in the most vivid shade, chosen to echo the red piping tracing the collar. Inside, discreet loops keep the ribbon properly in place so that when cinched at the waist it creates the most satisfying lift and shape. The body of the garment itself remains relaxed, an ease and freshness far from the typical image of a romper. Tied lower at the hip, it even takes on the charm of a sporty little 1920s day dress.
The chair motif comes from a vintage Victoria’s Secret silk shirt of all places. The chairs float in their own quiet world of pale, moody blues, appearing across the bust and in each gathered godet at the hips.
Bust 33in, Waist 26in, Hip 36in.
